Si è da poco conclusa l’undicesima Giornata Mondiale della Gioventù (GMG) che quest’anno si è svolta dal 15 al 20 luglio a Sydney in Australia.

SYDNEY, mercoledì, 16 luglio 2008 (ZENIT.org).- Dopo la Messa di apertura della Giornata Mondiale della Gioventù, celebrata questo martedì a Sydney (Australia), 150.000 giovani sono stati testimoni di una festa di musica e lode con la partecipazione di numerosi artisti popolari.

Tra questi, c'erano i Tap Dogs, i Fire Dancers, The Australian Girls Choir, e i cantanti del tema ufficiale della GMG, Guy Sebastian, Gary Pinto e Paulini Curuenavuli. La festa è terminata con uno spettacolo di fuochi d'artificio che hanno brillato sul porto, aggiungendo splendore ai volti sorridenti dei giovani pellegrini.

Gli organizzatori della GMG sottolineano che la musica contemporanea di ispirazione cattolica sta giocando un ruolo importante nell'amplificare i messaggi che si vogliono comunicare.

Paulini, artista tongana-australiana che si è esibita con la sua band, ha spiegato il perché.

“La musica è qualcosa che tutti amano e riunisce”, ha detto a ZENIT.

I compositori del tema ufficiale della GMG si sono detti d'accordo. Guy Sebastian e Gary Pinto hanno riferito a ZENIT di sentirsi onorati di testimoniare la potenza del Vangelo attraverso la musica.

Sebastian ha detto di sperare che la canzone “aiuti ulteriormente a consolidare il messaggio di questo splendido evento nel cuore della gente” e che “cantando 'Alleluia, receive the power' i giovani sapranno che non è attraverso i nostri talenti che lo facciamo, ma grazie al potere di Dio... Nulla è impossibile al suo Santo Spirito”.
